Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) are web-based apps that share many of the same features as a mobile native app. PWAs allow improved functionality for users in the browser, better brand visibility, push notifications, and more; all without having to develop a dedicated native app. This is achieved through the use of service workers, manifests, and other web-platform features in combination with progressive enhancement.
Progressive Web App Features:
The following are some of the advantages to offering SNAPmobile Web PWA to users.
Simple Install Process:
PWAs can be installed similarly to any native apps, making SNAPmobile Web appear in the list of applications. It is able to have a place on the home screen and is available in the Finder/Windows Explorer.
Dock App Visibility:
The PWA has a customizable icon image, allowing for brand visibility. Unread message counts appear as unread badges on the dock icon.
Push Notification:
Even when the PWA tab or window is closed, users can still receive calls and messages as push notifications. When the notification is clicked, the PWA opens.
Offline Page:
Through the use of service workers, the PWA can tell when the user is offline. In this state, it displays an offline page notifying the user that a connection error occurred, recommending the user to check their network status.
App Settings:
Click the three vertical dot (kebab) menu button in the top right corner of the PWA window and click on "App Info". This presents the following dialog with quick app settings; for the full list of settings, click on "Settings".
This will open a new window with additional settings, including the ability to have the PWA "Start when you sign in" to the device.
